What you feed your brain matters!

This week I had the opportunity to attend the First Step to BOLD. Agents were there from all over East Tennessee, including Chattanooga, Cleveland, and Knoxville. Jason Edwards (@AgentJason) did a phenomenal job as the instructor/coach. His enthusiasm and experience as a trainer bring an incredible energy to the program. Jason has graciously allowed me to observe his classroom, so for the for the next 8 weeks I’ll be blogging about the things that impact me as well as my observations on the class.

One of the cool things about BOLD is that it is being taught in multiple locations across the country. And with so many participants, it is creating a LOT of buzz. If you’d like to follow the BOLD conversations on twitter, (or if you happen to be tweeting about it) please be sure to use the twitter hashtag #kwBOLD

BOLD law for this week: What you focus on, expands. In other words, you get what you think about (whether it’s what you want or not). This has really had me contemplating the things that I think about and the things that I allow into my life. I am choosing to speak positive thoughts into my world and to place my affirmations where I can see them often during the day. I’m sharing those affirmation with the people closest to me, including YOU. You see what I’ve discovered is that the more I think about something, the more I notice it. The more I notice it, the more it grows in my life. So, I’m simply choosing to think about the positive things.

The other concept that goes hand in hand with this is that our Thoughts lead to Feelings – Feelings lead to Actions – Actions lead to Results – Results lead to our Programming – and our Programming feeds our Thoughts. If I tell myself that there is no way I am going to succeed at _______ , that causes me to feel insecure. My insecurity leads me to take action that probably isn’t my best effort. When the result is that I don’t succeed at _______, I’ve just reinforced that Programming that I can’t do _______. And they cycle begins anew. It’s like your brain just keeps looking for evidence to support its theory that you either CAN or CAN’T. I’m choosing to feed my brain the thoughts that I CAN. It’s much more productive and I’m excited to see how it moves me forward.

Other ah’as for the week:

The majority of our communication has nothing to do with what we say – our actions speak louder than our words so pay attention to your body language.

When you want someone to listen to what you’re about to say, PAUSE. It tells the brain to pay attention!

Once your mind has been stretched, it can never go back.

Next session: October 12. I can’t wait to be back with our great agents in East Tennessee and with @AgentJason!
