Making the most of Keller Williams Family Reunion

Keller Williams Family Reunion is right around the corner and after attending for 11 straight years, I’ve come up with some tip for making the most of it.

1. Take a sharpie marker to write on the back of the cards you collect. some agents have slick cards that a ball point pen won’t work on.

2. Avoid the temptation to party too much. you won’t be alert the next day for early morning sessions, (which are some of the best) or be your best for networking. Family Reunion is filled with long days and you need your rest. (okay I sound like a little old lady here!)

3. Take note cards and stamps with you and send follow up notes to every person you meet. Write them in your room at night and mail them from the hotel so they’ll be there when your contact gets home.

4. Take highlighters in different colors. designate certain colors for certain things.

5. TAKE A FEW YELLOW SHEETS OF PAPER WITH YOU. ANY TIME YOU HEAR SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT TO IMPLEMENT, PULL THE SHEET OUT AND WRITE THEM ALL DOWN IN ONE PLACE. THE YELLOW WILL HELP YOU FIND THE PAGE IN ALL OF YOUR BOOKS, ETC. This way you won’t have to dig thru gobs of notes to find it!

6. I usually take another colored paper with me to write my aha’s down on. Again, they’re all in one place!

7. Use the time on the airplane ride home to go thru your yellow sheets and prioritize¬† the things you want to implement. Don’t try to do them all at once. Put them on your 411 immediately and post the yellow sheet near your desk so you can see it. Cross them off as you complete them. You’ll have a real sense of accomplishment.

8. If you have a team, plan to meet with your team each day for a few minutes to get their aha’s and compare implementation lists. This will keep all of you on the same page and give your team a sense of accountability that they are there to work and network for your team. Same goes for Team Leaders and their staff that attend.

9. If you have a team or staff, strategize on who should attend what sessions. Each person can then bring their insights back to the group and you’ll cover more ground that way.

10. DON’T eat meals with your friends. Join others and brainstorm. They will NOT be offended if you ask to join them. (it is, after all a FAMILY Reunion) Come up with an ice breaker question or statement such as ” the real estate market in X has an Y number months supply of houses on the market. what is happening in your area and what is the most effective thing you are doing to deal with it?

11. Enjoy your time. Soak up the energy. And do NOT miss the inspirational breakfast. It will remind you of why you joined KW in the first place.

  1. Pick the agents you want to meet before you go. I go through my fb friend list and find people I’ve connected with online and make it a point to meet them in person. I have also emailed top agents that inspire me and ask them to coffee or lunch. It’s always been warmly received and the meetings priceless.

Make sure you go to the Red Bash. It is a great way to open Family Reunion and the band Bad Escrow is amazing. P.S. They are all with Keller Williams and are agents.

  4. My tip is to try to whittle your list of “TO DO” or “want to implement” to 3 top items. If you go home with 20 things you want to do; it will be very hard to focus. In 2008, I picked blogging as one of my three and it changed my real estate career! Hope to meet many new people; I’m on a blogging panel from 1 to 2 on Tuesday…stop by to meet me!

  6. This is Excellent Advice! Thank for this! I am so excited about Family Reunion!

  7. Be sure to dress comfortable with comfortable shoes. You will want to get to the classes before they fill up

  8. Yes, Comfy Shoes! Suits with sneakers are totally acceptable!

Comfy shoes are a MUST! And, bring your own snacks. You never know when a session will run long and you’ll choose to skip lunch.

  10. Lee Williams says:

Grab more business cards than you give out. Puts you in the driver’s seat for follow-up. I got three listing leads last year, which was also my first.

  11. Granola bars, water bottles, and sneakers. Stay high blood sugar, and offer extras to new faces. Stay hydrated because it keeps you alert and happy, and referable. Wear sneakers because you should be good to your feet. And it’s your one chance to wear them at work :). I saw somebody who was wearing a name tag sticker with their hometown; makes you more approachable….

  12. Beth great info. I wish I had it my first #kwfr, I eouldnt have been a lost child. I am seining an email link to everyone from our Oklahoma group that will be there. thanks. See you at #kwfr

  13. Bring Special Marketing Cards to Put out on the Network Table at the Back of the Trade Show — Make sure the cards identify where you are from — You never know who will pick one up and send a referral to you. I have received many referrals from agents who found me sight unseen. Make it clever and upbeat. The Network table is a great way to pick up agents you want to network with at FR. Then email or call them for coffee, lunch or a drink.
